Running a business online is exciting, challenging and rewarding all at the same time!

It starts off as this really exciting idea that goes off in your head and then the next thing you know, you’ve made up your mind that you want to start this awesome business online working for yourself.

After making that decision, you then start educating yourself on exactly how you can make this grand idea come to life.

Then, it hits you…”I actually have to make sales for this idea to fully work”. This is the exact moment confidence starts to become an issue for most online business owners.

How do you fix this issue and become your most confident self yet so that you can start showing up online as the powerful force to be reckoned with that you know you are meant to be?!

You have to do the #1 thing most people are afraid to do…dig up and heal those emotional wounds within yourself. 

(I know, it sounds simple right?) If it were truly simple, then we would have master sellers everywhere.

Emotional wounds are like computer viruses. A lot of times, we can’t control when they present themselves but we can 100% control what we decide to do afterwards.

If we never address our emotional wounds to heal them, they WILL show up in our business and just like a computer virus, it will affect our livelihood.

Emotional wounds breed low confidence and low confidence affects our ability to show up online and SELL and if we cannot sell then we don’t make money and if we don’t make money…it affects our ability to live!

By the end of this article, you’ll know exactly why confidence is important to make sales online, and exactly what it takes to show up confidently online to start hitting your income goals every month.

How confidence directly affects how much money you make in your online business:

When we decide that we want to start an online business, putting the systems in place, learning the strategies and purchasing the trainings is the easy part.

Showing up and putting yourself out there again…and again…and again to help others knowing that you will also be judged harshly by many is the hard part.

The first time I put myself out there and started offering my services, I got called a scammer. That hurt because I had worked so hard on my offer to be sure that it would truly help people. I could have easily let that one person define me but I didn’t and kept showing up!

That same week, I made my first ever $1K in business. Now, I never make any less than $10K a month. I’m full-time in my business and love every second of what I do.

It’s so easy to stay behind the scenes in the name of :

“I’m still working on my website. It’s not ready yet so I can’t make sales.”

Or “I just have to post 5 more blog post on this topic before I can create a course on it and sell it.”

Here’s the truth, you’ll never truly feel ready!

Being ready is not a feeling, it’s a decision. You and only you get to decide when you’re ready to put yourself out there and start making sales. No magic fairy is going to drop money in your lap the second your website goes live or the second you hit publish on one more blog post. (I know, bummer. I had to learn this the hard way but trust me it all paid off.)

However, believing that money will appear out of nowhere because we’re working harder behind the scenes makes us feel better because we can use the excuse:

“I’m not making money because I’m still working on my thing…and when I’m done working on my thing…then I can start making money.”

This is the detrimental cycle that most online business owners will find themselves in and the most dangerous part about this cycle is that it’s almost impossible to be self aware that you’re stuck in it.

Somebody from the outside looking in has to call you out on it.

Like “Hey there friend, do you know you’ll never make money if you don’t actually show up in your business???”

It’s me! I’m that person that’s calling you out on it today!

Start treating your business like a real business

Legally, the second you start making money online what you’re doing is considered a business. This means the moment you decide you want to start making money online, it’s crucial to start thinking about and treating your business as a REAL business.

If we’re using words like “hobby, cute or little” to describe our business then how are we ever going to feel confident about what we’re doing and the way we’re showing up online. How we feel about our business naturally comes off in the way we’re describing our business to others.

Example: “Oh, it’s just a little hobby I do on the side to make a little money.”


Example: “I run an online management investment firm.”

The way you describe what you do to others will help them decide within a split second if you’re someone who can help them or not. It will also show them within a split second if you’re “playing around on the internet” or running an actual business.

Create a routine

A lot of people start their business for the “freedom” which is amazing! However, I think it’s important for someone in this online space to give a realistic idea of what that looks like and how you can actually and realistically create the freedom you desire for yourself.

You can 100% create the life of freedom you desire for yourself but it’s definitely something that would have to be worked towards instead of just falling in your lap.

First, know that it’s 100% possible! Second, create a routine to help you get there!

In business, every day is likely to be different but by following a pretty consistent outline to your day you’ll be able to get into what I like to call a “flow” of productivity.

Knowing from the beginning that this life of freedom you desire is something that’s possible but also has to be worked towards instead of just falling in your lap, will automatically set the expectation that you may run into a couple of challenges.

Understanding this releases the pressure to be perfect all of the time. When there’s no pressure to be perfect, then all discouragement goes out the window. You can try and fail a million times and because you already expected a challenge, it’s no pressure to be perfect and you’ll get back up again.

Creating a routine will allow you to get into your daily “flow” of productivity so that you’re showing up for your business every – single – day!

It’s hard to show up confidently in your online business if you’re going weeks without touching your online business. (I know, ironic right?)

Create a list of generic activities that needs to happen every single day and make these activities an absolute non-negotiable for you!

Take action on revenue generating activities

Knowing the exact actions it takes to make an income in your business is a confidence booster within itself. Executing on those actions will blow your confidence through the roof because you 100% without a doubt know you’re doing what it takes to make sales, all you have to do is wait for the income to start rolling in.

Incorporating revenue generating activities into your daily routine will not only boost your confidence but it will 100% guarantee you’re hitting your income goals every month. It’s hard not to be confident in your ability to sell when you know you’re doing what it takes to actually make sales…from this point, it’s not a matter of “if” you’ll make sales…it’s a matter of “when” you’ll make sales.

Learning Sales & Marketing is a non-negotiable 

I’ve been in business since 2017 and what I’ve learned is that it’s super easy to say we don’t like something when in reality, we’re saying we don’t like it because we’re not good at it.

That was my story for years around sales and marketing. Because I let it define me, I was only making a couple of hundred dollars here and there.

I told myself  that I hated sales and marketing, and I’d rather work on things that felt fun.

What I didn’t know was that the only reason I didn’t like sales and marketing was because I sucked at it. Nobody likes doing things they’re not good at, it reminds us of our weak spots.

We try something once, realize we’re not so great at it…then decide that we don’t like it and never try it again.

Our ability to be really great at something directly affects how confident we are doing that thing. So, if you’re not so great at sales and marketing…then you also wont be confident doing it and if you’re not confident doing it, then you wont likely do it at all.

The cycle stops by realizing you can only become great at something by doing it over…and over…and over again!

If you’re horrible at sales and marketing, keeping practicing it again…and again…and again…and again till you’re so darn amazing at it that no one can ignore you!

At that point, your confidence around selling yourself will become second nature.

You will fail and it’s normal

Confidence is a huge issue in the online business space because nobody tells you that failure is inevitable.

There’s not a business manual everyone gets when they decide they want to start an online business that say’s “Hey, you will fail 100 times but keep going I promise there’s a huge reward on the other side.”

From the outside looking in, you’ll only see Instagram influencers and mega Facebook marketers on the beach with their laptops sipping mimosa’s when truly, they failed so many times before getting to that point in their business.

Just because you’ll never see their failures, doesn’t mean they didn’t fail.

It’s important you know this because the second you start showing up more confidently online and don’t see the results you hoped for, it’s easy to think “Karen was just on the beach with a margarita the other day while effortlessly making $1million.”

Understand that failure is so normal to the point where you should expect it.

From the great words of Will Smith “fail early, fail often, fail forward.”

If you can’t escape failure, wouldn’t you want to fail early so that you can learn the lesson and move past it?

If you knew extreme growth comes from learning from all the failures you’ve ever experienced, would you want to experience failure more often so that you could grow more often?

If you knew that failing taught you valuable lessons to push you forward, wouldn’t you look for failure so that you could continue moving forward?

Block out all negativity

This is a very sensitive area because often times, it involves blocking out family members.

Starting an online business takes a lot of mental work and in light of this, it’s important to protect your mental state and energy at all times. This is 100% possible by surrounding yourself with positive influences and supporters.

Our confidence surrounding our business and our abilities is directly affected by how we feel about it and how we feel about our business can change depending the kind of support system we have.

This is to in no way say that your love ones aren’t supportive. However, their version of support may not be what’s best for you.

Example: “I think you should spend your time doing something that’s actually going to help you make money.”

In their mind, they may truly feel as though they’re helping you by suggesting for you to do something more productive but they’re also expressing how they truly feel about your business…that it’s non-productive and wont provide for you.

Because your loved ones are so close to you, it’s easy to take what they say as fact but nobody knows your business better than you do, remember this!

The best way to block out all negativity is to understand that your friends and family are trying to support you in their own way, stop listening to negative music, tv shows or movies and find a true support system in person or online.

Fear & Low Confidence Are Two Sides of the Same Coin

It’s a very thin line between not being aligned with something and it being completely out outside of your morals vs. being absolutely terrified of putting yourself out there so you just stay within your comfort zone.

Only you have the power to decide when you’re going to stop playing small.

Okay guys, I’ve been pondering on the thought of writing this post for a while now because it is a touchy topic and a lot of people get offensive – especially if they make money off the very fact that they have a ton of traffic to their site monthly.

The conversation always goes a little like this with those people…you tell them “you can make money as a blogger without a lot of site traffic.” they say “it’s not possible because that is the only way I’ve been able to make money.”

Here’s a little back story on me, I started my blog 2 years ago as a hobby. Nothing serious and I honestly didn’t even think I would get this far which is still mind blowing to me.

For a really long time, I didn’t make any money. Then, after joining a few courses…buying a few info products here…going to a few webinars there…and downloading a crap ton of freebies…I started making money (nothing consistent) but it was way more than I did before which was nothing. I was making a decent part time income. However, it took me a long time to get there and here’s why…

Everyone and their mama was pushing affiliate links and ads. No one (and I really mean NO ONE) had a step by step guide or strategy to help newbie bloggers who had pretty much been working their butt off to get traffic so that they had the volume to start making real money. Here’s a shocker (not really) – you need a crap load of traffic for affiliate links or ads to start making consistent money.

If you’re a new blogger, you probably don’t have the traffic needed to make a consistent income with affiliate links, ads, or even a course…unless, you go another route.

Imagine a world where bloggers didn’t  have to make money off of ads or sponsored post…

That world totally exist. As a beginner at anything, it’s so easy to get sucked into the rabbit hole of doing what everyone else tells you to do because as a beginner, you really don’t know anything.

As a blogger who has went through the beginner “struggle phase” I’m not going to sell you a course on how to make money with sponsored post, affiliate links, or ads because honestly, it’s pretty much impossible without the needed traffic coming to your site.

I’m all about offering realistic solutions for newbie bloggers to actually make a consistent income.

So, let’s get on to the actual solution shall we…

How to make a consistent income with zero traffic

***WARNING***  This strategy is only for those who are serious about making money as a newbie blogger and are willing to do the work!

Is it easy in the beginning…no. But nothing worth having comes easy! It’s a lot of heavy work in the beginning but then later turns into a snow ball effect.

Get crystal clear on the problem that you solve. You cannot (I repeat) YOU CANNOT make a consistent income without knowing the exact problem you are solving for your target audience.

When there’s a problem at hand, there’s a pain point attached to it and people will pay just about anything to make their pain go away – hence, why specialized doctors get paid millions.

Target market research – do some deep digging in FB groups, on pinterest, on google, youtube or anywhere else you can find. Look for people having the problem that you have a solution to. Is it a lot of people (like millions) or is it a few?

That brings me to my next point…become so specialized in what  you do that there’s pretty much no one out there (or very few people) that do exactly what you do. This creates scarcity and will give you the valid reason to charge high prices because it will place you in high demand.

Create one product/program/ or service – pack it down with value that will get your ideal customer results. Make sure it has been proven to get results either by you or someone else.

Sell, sell, sell – sell that one product/service/program over and over and over again. Repackage it into another product. (for an example: if you wrote an eBook on cooking, repackage it into a course and sell it again)

You’re only going to be selling this to people who need what you have to offer and who will get results.

Getting specific people to pay you their hard earned money

Lets face it, people are very protective over their hard earned money…rightfully so!

Instead of marketing your product to serve everyone and their moma, we’re only going to create it for specific people through transactional content. How to flip your first $5k or $10K

The reason I chose the specific price points of $5k and $10K is because those numbers tend to be what people initially need to make to quit their job. (It can totally fluctuate depending on your situation) Once you’ve made a comfortable amount of money to quit your job…something that’s going to give you enough cushion to take a breather for a bit…there needs to be system put in place to continue bringing in that $5k, $10k or more.

This is the point at which you can start running ads, doing sponsored post to pull in more traffic, and even posting affiliate links if that’s your thing.

You don’t have to run ads, but at this point in your business, there needs to be some automated system put in place to bring you consistent targeted traffic so that you can continue making your $5k or $10k months.

A few examples could be: Pinterest automated posting or ads, a facebook group, Weekly IG lives or ads, monthly collaborations…something!

A Sales Funnel is a consumer focused marketing model which illustrates the theoretical customers journey towards the purchase of a product or service.

When people hear the phrase “Sales Funnel” they think of sleazy sales pitches like “You can’t live without this product. Buy today!” OR they just feel plain ole disgusting “tricking or manipulating” people into buying their product.

I want you to know that a Sales Funnel is not either of those things and if you feel that way after you put your funnel in place, you’re doing it all wrong my friend.

What not to do before or after putting your sales funnel in place

The before math

There are a couple of things that would already need to be in place before you set up your blog sales funnel.

Imagine this, you’re having a party and you invite a ton of people over for a party but when they show up, no ones home and the lights are off. All of your guest will end up leaving.

That’s NOT what you want!

Let’s view your blog in that same perspective.

Here’s a quick check list for you so that you know for sure you have everything you need to get the wheels rolling on your simple sales funnel system:

Target Audience:

If you’ve worked super hard on your blog for months and have heard crickets, this is for you. In most cases, it’s not that your idea isn’t great or that you chose the wrong niche, it’s just simply that your target audience isn’t able to find you.

Either way, no worries, there’s a specific reason for that and you can fix it today!

The best way to learn more about who your target audience is so that you can start attracting them to you in droves is to conduct some pure target market research.

The more target market research, the better! You’ll quickly start to notice who your target audience is, what they want from you and how you can help them.


After you are crystal clear on who your target audience is, you can then offer them something paid that you know for sure they’ll need!

You would need to have a paid offer or product already set up and ready to go so that when customers/clients start buying (because they will) there will be no buffer time between them putting in their payment details and receiving what they paid for.

Opt-in (s):

An opt-in is a lead magnet that entices people to start their journey deeper into your sales funnel. For most bloggers, this is the first form of personal contact that you’ll be making with your potential customer/client.

It’s super important that you’re offering your audience something tangible in return for their email address. It reinforces the idea in their mind that you are trust worthy and always available to provide value to them.

If you really want to go for the “wow factor” and build EVEN MORE trust on the front end, you can create a landing page for your mailing list opt-in to show case more details about what they’ll receive once they enter in their email address.

Email list:

Once your amazing opt-in is set up, you want to strengthen your personal connection with your potential customer/client through a series of emails. This is where you really let your personality shine bright like a diamond.

If they’ve made it this far into your blog sales funnel system, they are already so invested in you. An email is very personal and most people don’t trust just anyone with it. So if you’ve got even one person on your email list from this system, congratulations…you’re on the right track!

One person who has an insane amount of trust for you is better than 1,000 random strangers just sitting on your blog.

Would you rather have 1 paid customer or 1,000 non-paying customers?

As soon as each person joins to your email list, you want to give them something extremely valuable. There should be no buffer time between them giving you their email address and them receiving something valuable in return.

After they receive what they opted in for, over the course of 3 – 5 days you want to keep close contact with them so that they get to know you more, like you more and trust you even more!

After 3 –  5 days of emails invite them to purchase your paid offer. At this point, they’ll have very little doubt that what you’re offering them is absolute pure GOLD!

It’s a no brainer!

You want your paid offer/product to be a “no brainer” for your target audience.

Why am I Sharing this With you for Free?

Before we get into exactly how you can implement these three simple but crucial steps, I want to address a question that you might be thinking. “If this works so well, then why is she sharing it for free?” Because I was you not too long ago!

I would wake up super early, spend hours researching on Pinterest and Google hoping to find something to help me monetize my blog.

It quickly went from something I enjoyed and was super passionate about to something I dreaded and pushed off for weeks at a time. I started to feel like a failure when that wasn’t the case AT ALL!

I want you to know that you’re not a failure and you’re in the right place! I was you only a few short years ago and now I’m projecting to hit six-figures this year!


Initial Contact

Creating valuable free content will be your fist point of initial contact. Your target audience will need to know, like and trust you before jumping right in with selling to them.

Your free and valuable content should ALWAYS be transactional. Transactional content is created with the purpose of leading your audience somewhere else after consuming.

The best way to implement this would be to always add a link or CTA (call to action) to the end of each piece of content.

This will allow your audience to dive deeper into your sales funnel.

Personal Connection 

After your target audience takes action on your transactional content, you want to always attempt to make a personal connection with them.

There are many different ways to personally connect with your target audience. If your audience doesn’t know you, like you or trust you, it will be really hard for them to make the decision to spend money on what you’re offering them.

We want to help them make the shift in their mind from “ah, it’s okay. I can do without this” to “I absolutely need this”!

Imagine this: you’re super stoked about this new movie that’s coming out so you start telling all of your friends about it, and then they get super stoked about it too…then before you know it, you’re all headed to the movies to watch this really amazing movie.

Money at that point becomes a non-factor. You’re not thinking about how much the movie will cost, you’re thinking about how you absolutely need to see it.

We want to help our potential customers/clients make that shift in their minds.

The Pitch

After completing step one and step two, the pitch is easy. At this point, they should already be sold.

I don’t really like the word “sold” or “selling” because you’re not really “selling”, you’re offering a solution to someone who absolutely NEEDS it.

Knowing this fact, your pitch should NOT be pushy. This is crucial and the point at which a lot of bloggers, entrepreneurs and online business owners go wrong.

You simply want to invite them to purchase your paid offer because you truly believe it could help them.

They can and will feel your true intentions through your approach.

I know without a doubt that with this simple sales funnel system, you’ll be making sales in no time!

That’s why I want to leave you with a check list of questions to ask yourself to make sure everything is always running smoothly:

  • How does my potential customer/client first hear about me?
  • How am I going to entice them to want to learn more from me?
  • How am I going to start a relationship with them?
  • How am I going to introduce them to my paid offer or product?
  • How can I educate them about my paid offer or product?
  • How am I going to ask for the sale?

I’m projecting to hit six-figures this year off this simple blog sales funnel system alone.

Everything I do goes back to these three core tips: Make the initial contact, build a personal connection, sell the offer/product.

Deanna, has been in the insurance industry for over 3 years and has just recently decided to go digital with her business. She feels as though it has and will continue to help her business grow.

We discussed her biggest battles and everything in between. She doesn’t hold back when describing what it’s like being an insurance agent trying to get ahead.

What made you want to get into the insurance industry?

After years of working for other companies, I went searching for a purpose. I applied for a position as a claims adjuster for a well known insurance company. I got the position! Working as a claims adjuster, I realized that I really love working in the insurance industry. This industry makes me a lot of money and there’s potential to grow.

After a year and a few months there I decided to switch gears a little bit. I’ve always had the entrepreneurial spirit and I knew that I didn’t want to be stuck in a cubical for the rest of my life. I had the “aha moment”. I love helping people, I love insurance. Why not become an insurance agent? I get to help people, I get to be my own boss and there wouldn’t be a limit on how much I can make. That’s how I ended up being an insurance agent!

How has the digital world shaped your business?

The internet has shaped my business in amazing ways! It has allowed for exposure which is great! A lot of times when people are looking to buy from your business, one of the first places they go is the internet.

I’m a big fan of social media, if you use it the right way social media is a wonderful tool. It allows people to see me as a person and they get to choose. If they like what I’m putting out, if they like the content that I’m sharing, then I’m a right fit for them. Vise versa, I can look at my client and see if I’d want that person as a client. Pre-screening to see if we’ll be a good fit for business. It’s been amazing!

There are a lot of negative sides to it. A lot of people think you can only build a business off the internet – it is possible but you definitely have to place your seeds in other avenues when it comes to building a business but it is my number one go to.

What are some of the challenges you’ve faced in your business and what did you find that has helped you overcome those challenges?

A lot of people think that entrepreneurship is easy and glamorous and anybody could do it and that is just not the case.

Personal experience, I’ll just be completely transparent. I walked away from a corporate position to pursue entrepreneurship and I fell on my face hard. I actually ended up loosing almost everything that belongs to me. From my home, to my car. Didn’t have any money. If I can just be honest, you have to have a certain mindset going into entrepreneurship and I got caught up in “I can do this, I can make my own hours, I don’t have to answer to somebody…”. My mindset was focused on the benefits of it after you do the hard work of entrepreneurship. I went into it just wanting to reap the benefits, not really doing any hard work.

It is hard! Sometimes you’re working twelve…sixteen hour days for your business. With a nine to five, your off at five – you can leave that job there at that office. When you’re an entrepreneur, it follows you. You can’t just stick it on the shelf. That’s something that I had to learn, that my mindset was right!

If you go in with the right mindset, your willing to put in the work then it will be a great reward.

If you’re not ready to work really, really hard – sometimes things do not work out. I always say you have to have faith being a business owner or a entrepreneur.

A lot of times you’re doing the work without a hourly wage. You don’t know if you’re going to get paid or make that commission or make that amount of money until you’ve done all the work at the very end and you’re hoping and praying, moving in faith that someone is going to buy the product, or close that deal or whatever it is that you’re doing.
If you don’t have the strong faith and your mindset’s not right, I advise you not to go into entrepreneurship.

How do you prioritize your time?

Let me just say, I’m not the most organized person in the world. I’m okay with that. I’m working on that. Spending years working for somebody else, you’re given a schedule and then you work that schedule. Going back to the mindset shift, a paradigm shift.  I had to create my own schedule and at first before I shifted my mindset I’m like “Oh cool, I can work whenever I want…” and I’m like sleeping till one o’ clock in the afternoon and I’m not getting anything done. That’s part of the reason I didn’t have much success earlier.

Now, I’ve adapted the mindset of working my business like a business. My competitors are not other insurance agents, it’s Chick-fil-A. It’s the major fortune five hundred companies that call their workers – they hire people to come in at seven am to make those phone calls. You on the phone till twelve and you take an hour lunch break and then you’re back at it from one until it’s time to go home.

For me to see success in my business, I run my business like a business because essentially it’s my livelihood.

I have children so I have to get up earlier than most people who do not have children. Nine am, I’m in the office checking my emails, I’m seeing who I need to follow up with, scheduling appointments. By ten thirty, I’m in the office on the phone making calls.

I know that was long and drawn out. I prioritize my time as if I were still working for corporate america.

How do you plan to use your future website to grow our business?

Good question! I’m a millennial, in the 21st century and where the world is shifting you have to have multiple streams of income and one of the ways you can do that is to turn your passion into a paycheck.

Yes, I’m passionate about insurance and customer service but I do have a passion to help mothers because I am a mom. I want to use my website to reach people that are out of my area. I’m in Georgia, Georgia is big it’s like six million people and counting but there’s a whole world out there that I know I have something to say that can reach another mother out there that’s maybe going through similar things that I am going through and have gone through. We can win together.

I know that if I can just share my story and get her to make a better decision or make her feel like she’s not alone then I’ll feel like I’m making my mark here in the world.

That’s how I’m going to be using my internet business to help people.

And then of course, I believe as an entrepreneur you monetize everything.

Where do you see yourself and your business in the next five years?

Operating a insurance agency with loyal employees and living off my residuals of working so hard.

And also being a internet phenomenon for moms! Helping moms have financial freedom and also helping moms have it all because I always felt like you can have it all! You can be a stay a home mom and make a good income and still be at home with your family…still take care of the household – it’s doable. The internet has made this possible!

In five years, I do see myself living that life!

Running a business can be tedious. Us entrepreneurs have a ton of task that we need to do, and it’s not just because we ‘want’ to do it, it’s because we ‘need’ to do it for our business to continue on the right track.

⇒Ask yourself, “What is one of the coolest things that can happen with my business this year?

Use that one cool thing as your focal point. Forget about everything else and make that one goal your target for 2019!

⇒Once you have that one main goal, break it down into three little goals to make it happen.

⇒As a last goal setting step, give each small goal three habits. These habits should be incorporated into your daily life somehow.

Use the Right Tools

I know it sucks to spend money. One of the major obstacles I overcame was the fear of spending money on my business. I had to realize that my fear came from the thought that I wasn’t going to make the money back.

I’m all about the frugal life so forking out big bucks for business necessities was not my thing until recently.

There is going to come a time where you will need to fork out cash for the success of your business. (Investing in yourself.)

I’m encouraging you to not hold back. Worst case scenario, you spend that money on a burger.
